Country music duo Joey Feek and Rory Feek acquired many fans throughout the years. But after Joey was diagnosed with cancer and Rory revealed the depths of her courage and shared their love and faith amid heartbreak, the devoted husband and wife won the hearts of the nation. Following her decision to enter hospice care, Joey became increasingly frail. On March 6, two days following his wife’s tragic death at 40, Rory revealed how he feels living life without the woman he loved so much, reported Us Weekly .
“[M]aking plans that I hoped we would never have to make,” posted the 49-year-old father of the two-year-old daughter they shared, little Indiana.
But before she lost her battle, Joey shared with Feek her wishes for her final resting place.
“Find a good spot in the family cemetery in the field behind our house, where we put your mama’s ashes last year… with room enough beside my headstone for you to join me someday… in God’s time,” Joey had told her husband.
Now Feek is seeking to live life without her, sharing a photo of their daughter Indiana at their Tennessee farm, where he returned after Joey passed away in her own hometown of Alexandria, Indiana. But Rory revealed that throughout his life, he knows he will feel her presence.
“She’s gonna be in the mint growing beside our back deck, the sweet-corn frozen in our freezer and a million other places that her hand and heart has touched around our little farmhouse and community. Joey will still be with us. Everywhere.”
Owens Memorial Services revealed the plans to celebrate her life, including where to send donations if desired.
“Joey’s life will be celebrated through a private intimate service and interment in the Feek Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation can be sent to: Joey and Indy at PO Box 5471 Vancouver, WA 98668,” stated the obituary.
In sharing the news that Joey had died, Feek revealed his religious faith, reported People .
“My wife’s greatest dream came true today,” wrote Rory. “She is in Heaven. The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry. Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior.”
Feek also revealed just how much he is now focused on their daughter Indiana, posting a new photo of the little girl with her pal.
“…reunited. Indy’s happy to see her best friend Scout (and Scouty’s little brother Ash).”
The reference to Scout is not the first time that Rory has revealed the special bond between his daughter and her BFF Scout. Indiana has Down syndrome, while Scout has Loeys-Dietz syndrome. On his blog, This Life I Live , Feek recalled when Joey became emotional over a picture of Scout that reminded her she would not always be able to care for their daughter, reported Sounds Like Nashville .
“Like our Indiana, Scout is very special,” Rory shared. “She was born with something called Loeys-Dietz syndrome, a connective-tissue disorder that affects her heart and a thousand other things. Unlike Indy, Scouty has been in and out of hospitals and surgeries since the day she was born.”
Viewing a picture of Scout caused Joey to break into tears, recalled Feek.
“‘I want to raise our baby,’ she cried, and her tears fell harder… ‘I want to be the one to teach her.’”
Among those revealing how the courage and faith of Joey and Rory had inspired them and touched them were Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood , as the Inquisitr reported.
“Praying for the family & friends of Joey Feek,” tweeted Underwood. “A beautiful soul moved into heaven today. A beautiful legacy she left behind. @joeyandrory.”
“The courage that they as a family have displayed — it’s inspirational. It’s sad, but it’s special at the same time,” shared Shelton.
