An elderly Canadian man has fended off an attacking bear by ramming a branch down its throat.

Father and son Tom and James Wanyandie were in the woods doing what ever Canadians do in the woods, when they accidentally stumbled across a bear cub. Before being able to raise a firearm (ostensibly to defend themselves), the mother bear attacked,

The bear went straight for James, but 77 year old Tom wasn’t prepared to sit back and allow this to happen. Tom charged toward the attacking bear, swearing at it in a local Indian language, before ramming a branch he’d been using as a walking stick down the animal’s throat.

According to local reports , it was enough to startle the bear and give the men a chance to get away. Despite a range of injuries, the pair made it back to their vehicle, where they later called from help.
