Last week, the Dallas Cowboys got a huge victory over the New York Giants, but it was costly in that they lost Dez Bryant for 4-6 weeks with a broken bone in his foot. This week, the Cowboys got a big win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but it may have cost them even more. Quarterback Tony Romo suffered a fractured collarbone and is now going to be out for a while, but for how long?

The Cowboys defeated the Eagles 20-10, but they were up 13-0 in the third quarter when the unthinkable happened. As Yahoo Sports reported.

Jerry Jones said Romo’s injury may not require surgery. Will do MRI, know more Monday. Said depends on ligament damage along w/ bone break.

In 2010, Romo missed the first 10 games of the season due to a fractured left collarbone and he didn’t have surgery to repair that one either. ESPN reported that that he was initially scheduled to miss six to eight weeks, but was out longer.

Romo was sacked and fumbled the ball away, but that wasn’t the biggest concern for the Cowboys. All Dallas fans held their breath as Romo clutched his left shoulder and was helped to his feet.

He tried to brace his fall as he was sacked, but his left arm was driven into the ground. Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks then fell on top of Romo with all of his weight, and the Cowboys’ signal-called stayed on the ground holding his shoulder.

After Romo was taken to the locker room to be checked out, Brandon Weeden came in to take over for him. Weeden is currently the only other quarterback on the Cowboys’ active roster, but Kellen Moore is on the practice squad.

Weeden ended up going 7-of-7 for 73 yards and a long touchdown during his time against the Eagles.

Now, the Cowboys are without Romo for an unknown length of time. Dez Bryant had foot surgery last week and is out at least another month. Offensive left guard Ronald Leary has a groin strain and is due to be out at least a little while longer.

The Dallas Cowboys had Super Bowl hopes for this season even if some NFL experts predicted they would miss the playoffs entirely. The injury to Tony Romo isn’t going to have the team give up, but the road to the postseason just got a lot harder.
