PlayStation 4 users should start buckling up since an upcoming subscription fee increase is on its way to PlayStation Plus subscribers in Europe, Push Square reports.
Sony confirmed this week that subscription prices for the PlayStation Plus monthly and tri-monthly premium service will be getting an increase come September. This price increase is reported to only cover PlayStation 4 users in Europe, particularly the UK area, where PlayStation Plus has the biggest subscriber base .
A Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) UK representative talks to Push Square and explains that this PlayStation Plus fee increase is a response to the UK market conditions.
“We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content. From 1st September we will be increasing the price of monthly and three month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in line with market conditions. We will continue to invest in PlayStation Plus to ensure an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features.”
PlayStation 4 continues to be on the top of its game with Xbox One struggling to keep up with PlayStation 4 sales. PlayStation promises that this PlayStation Plus fee increase will be well justified and will only bring about better features for the PlayStation 4.
In fact, PlayStation 4 just revealed recently that it’s rolling out a new Vote to Play feature for PlayStation 4 PS Plus users. This feature will enable gamers to vote for the game they want to be included for free in the Instant Game Collection released monthly. This Vote to Play feature could be the first of many additional features to come to PlayStation 4, supporting Sony’s move to increase their PS Plus prices.
The PlayStation Plus subscription fee increase has only been confirmed in Europe as of writing. No news has been released for a price increase for PlayStation 4 units in America and Asia. It is notable that PlayStation 4 and PS Plus conditions tend to differ from country to country, with deals and discounts exclusive to certain countries, so it’s not a surprise that this news only affects a certain PlayStation market. Just last month, SCE UK announced an exclusive PlayStation 4 bundle for the European market, the Limited Edition Destiny: The Taken King bundle.

Yibada reports that PlayStation Plus subscription price is expected to go up from £11.99 to £14.99. However, there is no official news to confirm the final price point, so the price range is still not set in stone. Hopefully, Sony plays by their promise that this price increase will translate to better games and services for PlayStation 4 users in the European region.
