One woman’s eye irritation turned out to be much more than she ever expected – lice. According to the Daily Mail , the Chinese woman – who has only been identified as “Ms. Zhang” discovered that lice had been living inside her eye.
On July 20, the woman was reportedly admitted to the Haida Hospital in the Shandong province for a cerebral infarction, a type of ischemic stroke that occurs when the blood vessels that supply the brain are disturbed and blood flow to the brain becomes blocked. In addition to the stroke, she began suffering from irritation in her left eye just two days later. Initially, she assumed she’d contracted a mild infection due to the recent stroke she’d had, but as the irritation grew worse she became much more concerned. When she asked her son to take a look, he actually noticed something moving on her eyelid.
“Mum! There’s stuff moving on your eyelid!” her son reportedly said.
After visiting the doctor again, she was told that she had lice in her eye. “These lice were all white in color,” Dr. Bao Guisheng said. “I thought they were some sort of a parasitic bug, like mites or something, but when we looked through a microscope, we saw that they were lice.”
According to Opposing Views , doctors removed more than 20 lice from the woman’s eye and footage of the shocking procedure has gone viral. The cringe-worthy clip begins with a magnified glimpse of the woman’s eyelashes. Several of the creepy insects can be seen crawling on the woman’s eyelid as doctors work to remove them. While the clip is only 40 seconds, you’ll probably be rubbing your eyes by the time it’s over. Although many viewers are quite flabbergasted over the creepy discovery and find the footage completely revolting, surprisingly experts have admitted that this rare occurrence can happen.
