If you’re eagerly awaiting the next installment of in the Game of Thrones series, you may be a little ticked to know that George R.R. Martin took off some very important time from writing recently to appear in Sharknado .

But no worries — the film crew actually went to him, shooting for a day in New Mexico, E! Online reported. That’s one of the perks of being George R.R. Martin.

“We wanted him in the movie, he wanted to be in the movie, so we went to New Mexico, and we shot it for a day,” said director Anthony C. Ferrante.

In a hilarious spoof of the author’s tendency to kill everyone in his books and thus the show, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! featured him getting his just desserts.

Fans watched Wednesday night as the writer popped on screen just long enough for them to wonder “is that George R.R. Martin?” when he was promptly killed. By a shark, of course.

Before you feel too depressed, remember that he beheaded Ned Stark, murdered the rest of his family at the Red Wedding, felled Jeoffrey Baratheon at the Purple Wedding, and then turned (spoiler!) Jon Snow into a pin cushion.

So maybe we can consider his death in Sharknado a bit of revenge of the kind Arya Stark would be very proud of.

His death scene is hilarious and riddled with Game of Thrones ‘ references, USA Today added. He sits down to watch a movie featuring a shark with three heads (like his prophesized dragon). His head is bitten off by a shark. And the person next to him is wearing a wedding gown.

In a fun side note, Martin’s Sharknado appearance actually had a line, Ferrante said. Unfortunately, it was cut from the final version but will likely appear on the DVD , fan site Winter Is Coming reported.

“He went outside, shivered, and said, ‘Winter’s coming.’ But we thought about it and decided that we wanted people to watch it and go, ‘Wait, is that…Is that George R.R. Martin?’ “

Good call.

Believe it or not, George actually wanted to be in Sharknado . And the filmmakers were already big fans of Game of Thrones , so were more than happy to oblige, Huffington Post added.

Even better — the geniuses behind the campy flick have actually thought about adding of Westeros-inspired character into the next movie — “DragonNado.”

The old gods help us all.
