Taco Bell is giving away free biscuit tacos during breakfast time on May 5. Taco Bell is calling the free event “ Breakfast Defector Day ,” which just so happens to fall on Cinco de Mayo , according to Taco Bell’s website. Taco Bell unveiled both the biscuit taco and the Breakfast Defector Day ad campaign earlier this year to bring in more traffic during Taco Bell’s breakfast hours.

“The biscuit taco is going to get people to rethink their morning routine. When you do things that people don’t see coming, those are the types of products that get people talking.”

FoodBeast published the announcement that on May 5, Taco Bell will be giving away free biscuit tacos between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. at all participating locations nationwide. Customers may choose the sausage biscuit taco or the bacon biscuit taco. Both tacos come with scrambled eggs and cheese. There is only one free biscuit taco per person. If you want a second biscuit taco, feel free to purchase one at the regular price of $2.49 each.

Business Wire says a biscuit taco is simply a warm, fluffy, buttery biscuit, folded in the shape of a taco and filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon, or sausage.

Taco Bell started serving breakfast about a year ago to share the market with other fast food restaurants. Breakfast now accounts for about 6 percent of Taco Bell’s sales, and new breakfast items are offered to draw customers away from rivals, with McDonald’s being in the lead for serving breakfast.

With the introduction of the new breakfast biscuits, Taco Bell is retiring the waffle taco after about a year on the menu. The new biscuit tacos are selling quite well, and Taco Bell is hoping more people will get to taste them when they are offered free. In addition to the combinations of eggs, cheese, bacon and sausage, biscuit tacos are offered for a limited time with crispy chicken and gravy or jalapeno honey.

Taco Bell is based in Irvine, California. The fast food chain serves a variety of Tex-Mex foods, including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, other specialty items, and a variety of value menu items. Taco Bell serves more than two billion customers each year in more than 6,500 restaurants, mostly in the United States. More than 80 percent of Taco Bell restaurants are owned and operated by independent franchisees.
