MTV is attempting to move even further away from music videos by also going away from total reality television. Now, they’re moving toward cult-classic teenage films and turning them into television series. The success of Teen Wolf has brought about another TV series, and fans now know the release date for Scream: The TV Series and have seen the logo and premiere date, too.

At the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night , the official debut date for Scream was unveiled and it will be coming much sooner than anticipated. Originally expected in the fall, it will hit MTV on June 30.

The first trailer was also unveiled by Bella Thorne at the MTV Movie Awards. The significance of that is that Thorne is going to be in the Scream pilot as the Drew Barrymore of the TV series. She will pay an homage to the famous “Do you like scary movies?” scene.

As for the first trailer? There wasn’t a whole lot to the teaser, but the official trailer was better.

The new series will have touches from the Scream franchise that spawned four films, but there is more. It will center around a YouTube video that goes viral and begins to lead to problems for teenagers of Lakewood. The video serves as a catalyst for a murder that brings about a troubled past of the entire town.

It’s already known that the infamous Ghostface mask from the Scream movie franchise will not be appearing in the TV series. EW reported back in January that the creators wanted this series to be associated with the franchise, but also be unique.

Word is that the new mask will be be more organic, and possibly made of flesh, but that is not yet confirmed.

“It’s a darker, almost more grounded, evolved version of the mask,” says Mina Lefevre, MTV’s senior vice president and head of scripted development. “It’s something we’re constantly talking about. How did that mask become that mask? What’s its purpose? How did it evolve? If the Scream movie mask was the more plastic version, for a lack of a better description, this one is a more organic looking and frankly darker version.”

Willa Fitzgerald, Bobby Campo, Connel Weil, Taylor Klaus, and Joel Gretsch will star in the new series, and there are expected to be a lot of cameos. The series has already had a full first season of 10 episodes ordered.

Scream the TV series will debut this summer, and it’s one of the most anticipated new series in a long time from MTV. Now, the logo and trailer add a bit more reality to it, and fans can’t wait to scream about Scream .
