When Clarke returns, he will likely take over for skipper George Bailey, who had been standing in for him. Clarke wanted to play against England last week, but knew it would be better to rest.
“We had a good conversation (with selectors) last week and thought it was in the team’s best interests to not play against England and give me another week.”
Bangladesh was able to defeat Afghanistan by 105 runs, but it wasn’t an easy victory. There were big-time contributions from the bigger players, and it ended with a good start to the Cricket World Cup, but they need more.
This was a big game for Bangladesh, as they needed to get some revenge after losing their only previous meeting between the two countries when they faced one another in last year’s Asia Cup.
Facing off with Australia will be a much different beast, but Bangladesh will go in as the underdogs. This time, they won’t have the pressure of being the favorite and worrying about getting upset by a team they should easily defeat.
