The University of South Carolina just issued a “shots fired” alerts to all students and staff. An unknown gunman allegedly opened fire at the South Carolina university’s new school of public health. The school shooting bulletin was issued via a tweet by Carolina Alert.
Students, staff, and citizens near the University of South Carolina have been urged to “seek a safe shelter” and to obey all instructions by local law enforcement on the scene of the school shooting. All of the buildings at the University of South Carolina are now reportedly on lockdown. The university’s Public Health Research Building is located at 921 Assembly Street in the city of Columbia.

The governor cut short a news conference after being informed of the possible University of South Carlina school shooting, citing security concerns. The Public Health Research Building has been evacuated. Police officers are reportedly going floor by floor searching for a possible gunman.
University of South Carolina officials also noted that students and staff are being evacuated from the School of Music as well. Law enforcement officers armed with AR15s donning full SWAT gear are now moving about the campus and across the street from the school of public health building.
At least one ambulance has been reported at the scene. No victims of the possible University of South Carolina shooting have yet been found.
