Will George Clooney Really Buy You A Meal At Chipotle?

George Clooney has a tab at Chipotle that he forgot to close. As a result, when you go into the chain restaurant and order a meal, you need only say, “This one’s on Clooney,” and the actor will pick up the charge. Clooney’s indebtedness to Chipotle is nearing the $3 million mark.

At least, that’s what Clickhole claims in its article , “Seven Hacks to Get the Most Out of Your Chipotle Order.” Among the other tips are taking advantage of Chipotle’s “free refills” by not eating the tortilla, and utilizing the used burrito exchange, where the company will exchange your old burrito for a new one. You can also get more food if you tell the staff you’re full.

Alas, Snopes reveals it’s all satire , and therefore, not actually true. A clever reader would note, as Snopes points out, that Clickhole is a site associated with The Onion , which is well-known for its well-written satirical news . Snopes also investigates the Clickhole piece in detail and asks many pressing questions.

“Chipotle has open tabs? Does this happen at one Chipotle or at all Chipotle locations nationwide? Does George Clooney know about this? Is this goodwill or theft?”

Of course, Clooney is known for his humanitarian work and personal generosity. He recently won a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes and, in 2012, was spotted giving cash to a man living outside in New York City. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t keep track of his open restaurant tabs or will buy Chipotle food for anyone who knows the secret code word.

The Onion is not new to entertaining celebrity satire. In October 2013, the site posted a “news” article entitled, “David Bowie Asks Iman If They Should Just Do Lasagna Again.” The story followed the once-wild rock star and his former supermodel wife as they discussed whether they should have pasta for dinner. The pair makes up a CVS shopping list, and Iman mentions she ran out of cleaner while she was scrubbing out the tub.

While Clooney may or may not be a patron of Chipotle’s, he has been spotted at casual dining spots. The Daily Mail reported Thursday that Clooney snacked on sushi with friends in California while his wife, Amal, works on an important human rights case in Europe. The Mail also detailed Clooney’s lavish pre-wedding feast at a Venice restaurant before he tied the knot with Amal last fall. The restaurant manager waived the bill for Clooney and his stag pals.
