‘Walking Dead’ Spinoff Will Be A ‘Show About Family’

The Walking Dead comic book creator — and executive producer of the hit show — Robert Kirkman, has opened up a bit recently regarding the upcoming spinoff, and says that the new series will focus a lot on family. However, it won’t be similar to what we’ve already seen.

“I will say that this is going to be a show about family. But it’s going to be a show about a different type of family that we haven’t explored in The Walking Dead thus far,” Kirkman said . “So what we’re trying to do with The Walking Dead spinoff is keep the story as familiar as possible for people that love The Walking Dead , so you’ll get the kind of things that you expect from a Walking Dead story. But, at the same time, we’ll want to tell these stories in a completely different way with completely different people in a completely different setting that’s going to make for a fundamentally different show. I think the look and feel of The Walking Dead spinoff is going to be startlingly different.”

So will there be a love triangle? A willful kid who won’t stay in the house? A double-crossing friend, perhaps? Time will tell, and Kirkman isn’t giving much away for now. The new show — titled Cobalt , at least for the time being — will reportedly be set in L.A., and for the four people on the planet who don’t watch The Walking Dead , the story will still make sense because it will stand alone.

Rumors have been circling the web lately that a character who appeared in the first season may make an appearance on the new show, however; Dr. Edwin Jenner, the man who broke the news to Rick and his original crew that they were all already infected with the deadly virus that had taken out most of the world, is already dead.

Kirkman says the spinoff will still be within the realm of the comic book, but because it’s exploring the sunny shores of Cali rather than an overgrown Georgia, new characters and plotlines are a must. For die-hard fans of the original show, the chance to see a new part of the post-zombie (read: “walker”) apocalypse world is almost too much excitement to bear. But for others, the idea comes with a big dose of wariness.

I hope Better Call Saul is a hit for AMC so they stop airing Breaking Bad every Sunday, and don’t have to make another Walking Dead spinoff.

I kinda hate how the Walking Dead spinoff is set in LA. Of all the places they could’ve went, they went to the most expensive and overrused.

The Walking Dead spinoff is set to star Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam Carey, among others.
