In what can only be seen as a shock to fans who know the issues between WWE and Rey Mysterio, it appears the famous luchador will be signing a new deal with WWE shortly. This is quite the turnaround from recent events that had Mysterio leaving once his current contract ran out. WWE extended his current contract without Rey’s permission due to a clause that allows them to do so if a talent misses a certain amount of dates.
Rey sort of defied WWE in a way when he appeared on AAA’s TripleMania event in a taped spot, telling fans he cannot wait to return to the promotion. Mysterio also stopped cashing all of his WWE checks at the time. It appeared as if Rey was trying to get out of his deal in various ways. Many thought the former WWE Champion was done with WWE for sure after the deal was finally up, if he couldn’t get out of the deal he had. Then, things changed.
According to Figure Four Daily , WWE reportedly offered Rey a lucrative deal for him to stay. It would be full-time, but it appears that there will be enough breaks in it for him to avoid injury.
Lucha Expert Steve Sims reported that Mysterio had a change of heart. WWE realizes that they have no major Hispanic name to help them in the Hispanic market other than Mysterio. This allowed Rey’s worth to increase to WWE, which is forcing WWE to offer him a big deal for him to stay. According to Sims, the contract WWE is said to have offered is “the best of all the economic offers he’s ever going to get for the rest of his life.”
Clearly it is worth staying with WWE if they give you a massive deal. It appears that it came down to worth for WWE. WWE needs Mysterio, but Rey doesn’t need them. He can go to Lucha Underground or AAA and get a great deal. It may not be as high as what WWE could offer, but Mysterio wouldn’t work for pennies. He’d also get a schedule that wouldn’t kill his body. Plus, he’d have far more freedom. In saying that, clearly WWE had to offer something quite impressive for Rey to even consider signing on again.
Rey has been off TV for most of 2014, so when can we expect to see him again? In all likelihood, WWE’s Royal Rumble PPV would be the target date. That is only if Rey signs with WWE. As of now, he has been offered a deal, but has not officially signed it yet.
