Burt Reynolds has always had that feeling about him that he’s one of the coolest individuals on the face of the planet. Well, now you can kind of feel like him if you’re willing to cough up some big bucks to own some of his movie memorabilia and personal items that will be for sale in an auction.
Yes, there are a lot of cool items in the auction, but the best has to be the 1978 Pontiac black-with-gold-eagle-hood-decal Trans-Am that is just like the one he drove in Smokey and the Bandit . It even comes complete with embroidered headrests, a CB radio, and license plates that read “ BANDT22 ,” per Yahoo! Autos .
Sure, it may be close to 40 years after the release of the original film, but who wouldn’t want to drive around and act like Burt Reynolds as the Bandit?
Reynolds is going to have a live and online auction that will take place on December 11-12. The longtime resident of South Florida is looking to simplify his life and wants to get rid of some things.
“I’ve collected so many things that I truly adore, but at this stage in my life I find it very difficult to manage them all,” stated Reynolds. “The fact of the matter is that it is truly the time to downsize and for these items that I have loved over the years [to] find new homes where they can be cared for and appreciated.”
AV Club says that the auction will take place at the Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas, and it will include some of Reynolds’ private things as well. Wouldn’t it be great to get one of his high school football trophies, along with his helmet from The Longest Yard ?
Burt Reynolds ‘ iconic red jacket from Smokey and the Bandit will also be up for grabs and bidding on that starts at $4,000. It may be over 30 years out of style, but one simply needs to ask…does Burt Reynolds ever really go out of style?
A few other items in the Reynolds’ auction will be his 1997 Dodge pickup truck with his portrait on the hood beginning at $8,000, and a 1979 statue of the man himself riding on a horse. The state was sculpted by the late Cuban artist Manuel Carbonell and it will begin at $150,000.
The 78-year-old Burt Reynolds is still working, as he’s got a number of projects in the works for the next year or two, and it’s not like he is hurting for money. He just wants to go with the flow and make life easier, so it’s time to shed some weight.
