In the latest campaign Michelle Obama is on to encourage people to vote on election day, she urges blacks to vote Democrat. She states that it’s not about the ballot and who’s on it.

According to NewsOne Now with host Roland Martin, a phone call with the first lady is recorded as she talks about the importance of voting.

“That’s my message to voters. This isn’t about Barack, it’s not about the person on the ballot, it’s about you. And for most of the people that we’re talking to, a Democratic ticket is the clear ticket that we should be voting on, regardless of who said what or did this. That shouldn’t even come into the equation.”

The phone call with Michelle Obama involving her views on voting is seen in the video here.

In another comment made by Obama, she uses her husband’s election as the reason why young voters should get out — because they were “inspired by this president.”

“Voting is critical no matter who’s on the ballot. And that’s one of the things we have to continuously work on in our communities of new voters — folks who maybe voted for the first time because they voted for Barack Obama, young people who voted for the first time because they were inspired by this president.”

The Democratic party stands to lose control of the Senate to Republicans during the midterm elections. As a result, African-Americans are being targeted to get out and vote.

Experts on poll surveys are saying that without a strong vote from blacks, Democrats will see “crushing losses” at the polls. This is something the party heavily fears and is desperate to get more votes from African-Americans.

Pollster Cornell Becker wrote a confidential memo last month that the New York Times managed to get a hold of. It doesn’t predict having a substantial vote from African-Americans this year, like it did in 2008 and again in 2012.

“African-American surge voters came out in force in 2008 and 2012, but they are not well positioned to do so again in 2014. In fact, over half aren’t even sure when the midterm elections are taking place.”

A lot of reports on Michelle Obama’s latest comment is already drawing fire. Her remarks have caused some to call her racist and partisan following the NewsOne Now interview. Whether her efforts make a difference on election day remains to be seen.
