Halloween is surely a time of strangeness . From decorations that border on being offensive or insensitive to skulls that turn out to be real , the festival of spook is indeed a scary time of the year. However, it is also a time of candy. Kids going trick or treating are treated with sweet candy. Incidentally, a Black Hawk helicopter delivered a surprise package and now the crew is under investigation.
A National Guard crew scared Arizona residents by making a midair candy drop to a private Halloween party in their Black Hawk helicopter. Locals living near 36th St. and Camelback Road in Phoenix were quite scared late October 31 when the military helicopter swooped a little too close to their homes. Many were of the opinion that were either part of a secret military exercise or were being attacked. Nowadays, it is quite common to see a helicopter swoop down on residents for various crimes ranging from minor to severe.
However, this helicopter wasn’t serving justice; just some sweet Halloween candy to a private party, revealed footage shot by many from multiple angles. A clear footage shot on a cellphone showed that the crew was in fact making an unauthorized sweet treat drop to party-goers below, reported Fox News .
The elite Black Hawk crew had taken off from the Papago Park Military Reservation and was embarking on a training mission in the suburb of Deer Valley. But somehow midway, they decided to make the spooky impromptu stop.
Justifiably upset, the locals immediately complained to the Arizona National Guard, which in turn launched an investigation into the matter, reported the New York Daily News .
It later issued the following statement.
“The incident was not sanctioned by the Arizona National Guard and will be investigated further to ensure it does not occur again. The Arizona National Guard does not authorize nor condone the use of military aircraft or equipment for personal use,”
While for some, this unexpected stop was a surprise full of treats, for others it was like a dangerous Halloween fright. Black Hawks make a lot of noise, especially when they fly close to the ground or worse, hover.
Speaking about the scary experience right during Halloween, a resident said, “When I came out it was nose down, and it was definitely military. I didn’t know if it was going to be a crash, or an attack, no clue.”
Though the National Guard is not releasing the names of the air crew members involved, they have confirmed that all the members have been suspended from flying till the time, the investigation continues.
