Keira Knightley’s prom date photo was rejected from public display after the school faculty called it “disgusting.” Apparently back then certain things weren’t as readily accepted, and sometimes still aren’t.
We all know Knightley from her role in the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, as well as Pride and Prejudice , and this year’s release Laggies . She knows her way around a blockbuster film as well as those nominated for four Oscars and several wins. Knightley wasn’t always successful in her endeavors though.
The high school Knightley attended had her graduating with less than honor, as a photo she took with her female prom date wasn’t considered acceptable. It was turned down for display because the two of them were kissing in it.
This doesn’t mean Keira Knightley is a lesbian, as no boys were interested in her at the time. Currently married to James Righton of The Klaxons, she has been confirmed to be straight. Most of us have had a period when we were unsure or curious, but that’s not what happened with Knightley’s prom.
Knightley recalled her infamous prom kiss for the press.
“We had our picture taken underneath the thing, and she’s kissing me, and we were told that that was disgusting. Our photograph wasn’t allowed — you know when you get up and you collect all the photographs of prom and you buy whatever ones you want. Ours wasn’t allowed to be displayed on that because it wasn’t appropriate.”
Keira Knightley also said that she and her female prom date had been reprimanded and almost banned for their choice of clothes.
“We both turned up an hour late, and I’d been filming ‘Bend It Like Beckham,’ and I turned up in leather pants and a crop top, and she was a model for a while, and she’d been in Paris shooting something, and she turned up as the boy, so she had a black tie with ripped jeans on, and everybody else was completely dressed up, obviously, in that kind of finery.
“One of the teachers took us both aside and said we were never going to come to anything if we didn’t know how to dress appropriately for events like that. So that was my prom. We had a great time!”
Even Hollywood actresses have embarrassing situations, and Knightley’s encounter on prom night was one of her memorable ones.
Keira Knightley isn’t a lesbian though, so don’t expect her to be stepping in as Ellen Degeneres’ new main squeeze unless it’s for a movie role.
