The NBA lockout has taken its toll on New York Knicks guard Andy Rautins. Because of his unemployment, he decided to move back to his parents’ home in Syracuse. He now sleeps in his childhood bedroom.
In an interview with ESPN New York, Rautins said:
“It’s nice to get some home cooked meals up here. It’s nice because it’s a rare opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Normally you’d been in a busy season by this time. But I’ve been trying to see the positives in staying home and there’s a bunch so far. It’s saving me a lot of money right now and I think that’s a big concern for a lot of players.”
Outside basketball, Rautins is also looking at a possible internship at his financial adviser’s firm in New York. There he would be learning about investment advice and financial planning.
Rautins played for five games last season and had knee surgery in April. He earned about $200,000 last year and hopes to make it to the regular rotation of the team.
“I want to have a much bigger role than last year.”
Go for it Rautins. In the meantime, continue praying for the lockout to end so that you can go back to the hardcourt and away from your childhood bedroom. Nothing wrong with that, actually.
