The Walking Dead is the most popular show on television today. It’s also one of the biggest draws at the annual New York Comic Con, which opens its doors to geeks and pop culture fanatics today. And if past conventions are any indication, expect many of the show’s stars to make appearances in anticipation of the season premiere of The Walking Dead Season 5 this Sunday night (October 12) on AMC.

New York Comic Con is the second-largest pop culture convention aside from the now legendary San Diego Comic-Con that takes place every summer in California. The Walking Dead stars have appeared at the show every year since the show’s inception. Past guests included Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, both of whom will be making their annual trip east to help promote The Walking Dead Season 5.

Also on tap to appear is Danai Gurira, who plays fan favorite Michonne. Emily Kinney, whose character Beth Greene was last seen being abducted by mysterious kidnappers and who may-or-may-not have feelings for Norman Reedus’ Daryl, will also attend. And series regulars Lauren Cohen, Michael Cudlitz, Sonequa Martin-Green, Melissa McBride, Steven Yeun, and Lawrence Gilliard Jr. will also be there for a special panel on Saturday.

Finally, not to be outdone, series creator Robert Kirkman will also be at New York Comic Con as well. Kirkman, of course, was a comic book creator long before The Walking Dead made it to television, so his attendance was never really in doubt.

Business Insider meanwhile, lists The Walking Dead panel as one of it’s “10 Huge Reveals We Can’t Wait To See At New York Comic Con,” a list of the cool goings-on at the show.

“The cast and crew of ‘The Walking Dead’ is always the must-see event at NYCC. Fans line up waiting hours to get into the most coveted panel to see the cast on stage together. In the past, we’ve seen exclusive premiere clips and have learned about new actors joining the cast. We’re sure we’ll get a scene teased before the show’s return to AMC Sunday evening.”

Meanwhile, as reported by The Inquisitr , The Walking Dead has already been renewed for a sixth season well ahead of it’s Season 5 premiere. And why not? The show is number one in all the key demographics that measure ratings. It’s also a heavily addictive show with viewers unsure as to who will live and die every episode.

Kirkman dropped hints to Entertainment Weekly recently on what fans can expect from The Walking Dead Season 5.

“This season is following the comic book storyline pretty closely, possibly closer than we ever have before, and there’s a very popular, familiar storyline in the comic books that happened immediately following the exodus of the prison and it is entirely possible that we will be touching in some way on that very popular storyline.”

With The Walking Dead cast appearing at New York Comic Con for Season 5, Robert Kirkman’s statement is almost fitting.
