Katy Perry wouldn’t mind playing the Super Bowl Halftime Show, but the signer’s isn’t willing to cough up her own money for the experience.

For those who are a little confused by that opening statement, let’s back things up a bit. Instead of paying artists for their time and talent, the NFL believes the exposure is compensation enough. In fact, Matt Carter explains that the NFL reportedly came up with the idea of actually getting musicians to pay them for the opportunity .

Here’s how the website explains the NFL’s theory.

“Given all the revenue and attention that a star gets at the halftime show, they want their own piece of that pie. Basically, they want a star to give them some of their touring income if they want to be a part of the show.”

In addition Coldplay and Rihanna, the professional football league reached out to Katy Perry. Should she decide to sign on for the Super Bowl, she’ll have to cough up quite a bit of money in the process. Unfortunately for the NFL, Perry isn’t willing to bite.

According to The Wrap , Katy used her appearance on ESPN’s College Gameday to discuss the situation. If the NFL really wants Perry to play the show, then they’ll need to drop the “pay-to-play” model . In short: The “Dark Horse” singer isn’t willing to fork over any of her hard-earned money for the experience.

“I’m not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl,” Perry explained.

And that, as they say, is that.

So what does the NFL say about their pay-to-play model? The Wrap explains that NFL isn’t willing to publicly discuss the arrangements it makes with Halftime performers. In other words, they’re unwilling to admit that they’ve asked Katy Perry, Coldplay, and Rihanna to cough up some cash for the opportunity to perform at the show.

“Our only goal with the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is to put on the best show for the millions of fans who watch. Our contract arrangements with artists are confidential.”

According to Fox Sports , Katy Perry also used her appearance on College Gameday to hit on Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight . Although they’re a significant age difference between the two, the “Roar” singer didn’t seem to mind whatsoever.
