Mariska Hargitay of “Law and Order: SVU” fame– who did not appear at the Golden Globes on Sunday– has been hospitalized after suffering from a collapsed lung, her rep told the press.
“Mariska Hargitay has been sidelined with a pneumothorax [a partially collapsed lung],” her representative told Access Hollywood in an exclusive report.
Collapsed Lung, or pneumothorax, occurs as a result of “buildup of air in the space between the lung and the chest wall,” comments Life Style via WebMD , and it is often (though not always) caused by a chest injury like a broken rib or a puncture wound. Treatment ranges from surgery, rest and observation, and oxygen.
TMZ.com reports that this is the second time Mariska has had trouble with pneumothorax, with the first instance occurring during the Christmas holiday. With two bouts so close together, it sounds worrying, but her representative stated that this will not affect her appearances in upcoming episodes. (Thank goodness; what would they do without her?!)
