Safety Brandon Meriweather and the Chicago Bears agreed to a one-year contract on Sunday after Meriweather was released by the New England Patriots.
While Meriweather struggled with an inconsistent 2010 season he has managed to make the past two Pro Bowls after being picked in the first round of the 2007 NFL draft.
During his short career Meriweather has started in 40 of 64 games and has racked up 244 tackles, 12 interceptions, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two sacks.
Signing Meriweather appears to signal that the Bears have not been happy with the inconsistent play of free safety Major Wright during preseason games. The move should also help complement big-hitting strong safety Chris Harris who fought injuries through the 2010 season, while lacking the type of experience needed at that post.
Hopefully Bears coaches will be able to help Brandon with his inconsistencies which include giving up bad angles and failing to make big completions.
Financial terms of the one-year contract have not been revealed by Meriweather or the Chicago Bears at this time.
