Janet Jackson was missing in action when Michael Jackson’s hologram was performing at the Billboard Music Awards. But why did she skip out on such an event?
In a related report by The Inquisitr , rumors over a Janet Jackson divorce were stirred up earlier this year. Things also got real nasty in the family when it was claimed that Joe Jackson was Brandon Howard’s father via a tryst with Miki Howard .
Michael Jackson’s hologram pulled off “Slave to the Rhythm” at the event so convincingly that Jackie Jackson, Michael’s brother and former Jackson 5 band member, was moved to tears by the emotional performance:
“When he started walking and dancing, I was teary-eyed. It’s hard to please Michael’s fans and Michael… I’m telling you it’s amazing.”
The hologram performance was joined by 16 dancers. Michael had originally recorded the song with L.A. Reid and Babyface during sessions for his ‘Dangerous’ album in 1991. According to John Branca, the executor of the late singer’s estate, the the fans had been desiring a holographic live performance:
“It’s so important to experience Michael Jackson in a live setting. This is something where we wanted a live performance in front of a live audience and nothing speaks to that more than an awards show.”
But somehow Janet Jackson was not in the picture. It was originally rumored that Janet would join Michael’s hologram for the performance but she was not able to according to conflicting schedules:
“Janet wishes rumors she’d be at the #BillboardAwards were right. She never confirmed as her schedule would not permit. She sends wishes for a great event.”
This message was sent out via both Twitter and Facebook to her many followers. Although she could not make it, she did send out a personal message about a week later:
“My brother, Michael, was, is and always will be a genius. I love you, Mike. Janet”
