Van Johnson Dead at 92

Actor Van Johnson, a Hollywood star from 1940s and 1950s died on Friday aged 92.

Johnson served alongside Hollywood greats such as Humphrey Bogart in “The Caine Mutiny,” and played leading man roles opposite actresses including June Allyson, Esther Williams, Judy Garland and Janet Leigh. Musical lovers will remember Johnson for his lead role in the 1954 musical Brigadoon, with Gene Kelly.

Johnson made a number of television appearances over the years, includes I Love Lucy (1955), In Batman as “The Minstrel” (1966), Here’s Lucy and The Love Boat and in the mini-series Rich Man, Poor Man. In 1985 he toured with the Broadway musical La Cage aux Folles and appeared in a supporting role in Woody Allen’s The Purple Rose of Cairo.

Johnson passed away at Tappan Zee Manor, an assisted living community in Nyack, New York.
