Jackie Chan proves he’s still got what it takes to deliver incredibly intense action in the latest trailer for his upcoming thriller Police Story 2013 .

Although he isn’t risking his neck anymore to entertain the masses, the star of such noteworthy action flicks as Legend of the Drunken Master and Rumble in the Bronx is still out there doing his thing. If you need proof, then take a look at the clip embedded below.

Ditching the over-the-top goofiness found in his recent action flick Chinese Zodiac — a film that found the guy skydiving into an active volcano — Police Story 2013 finds Jackie Chan getting down and dirty while portraying detective Zhong Wen.

Although the previous installments of the actor’s popular Police Story franchise found Chan tackling the role of a Hong Kong cop, the latest entry in the series allowed Jackie to play a police officer from the mainland. Apparently this was something the actor has wanted to do for quite some time.

“I’ve played policemen many times before, but I’ve never shot a film which focused on the life of a mainland policeman. So this time, I get the chance to fulfill this kind of role,” Jackie Chan explained .

Chan told FZ.com that the stunts in Police Story 2013 are much tamer than the sort of theatrics found throughout last year’s Chinese Zodiac . Instead of trying to pile as much insanity into the film as humanly possible, the actor said he lets the story dictate the action.

“[In] every movie, my action choreography will follow the film’s concept, it cannot always be the same kind of styles. Police Story 2013 is a realistic film, so the action must not be too flashy or over the top,” he recently told the website.

The flick also finds his character battling a notoroius villain in an underground train tunnel, a sequence that Jackie Chan said was the most difficult to shoot. The actor also takes part in a particularly intense MMA fight scene set inside a cage. In other words, Chan isn’t skimping on the action just because he’s getting older.

Moviegoers in China will have a chance to catch Police Story 2013 on the big screen beginning December 24. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, we’ll have to wait until next year to see what all the fuss is about. Judging from the trailer, fans should have plenty of patented Jackie Chan insanity to feast their eyes on.
