The Jordan Linn Graham trial took a sudden turn when she plead guilty to pushing her newly wed husband off of a cliff.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the Glacier park murder originally saw Jordan Linn Graham claiming self defense .

So what was Jordan Linn Graham’s motive exactly for killing Cody Johnson? At first, she said they were in the middle of an argument and the death was mostly accidental:

“… we were in the middle of an argument and he thought I was going to run away. Cody had grabbed me and I thought he was going to push me down. My first instinct was to get him off.”

When the Montana woman left the glacier park, she lied to investigators at first because she was scared of what had happened. She even led friends and family to the spot where Johnson’s body lay. When the FBI questioned Graham, she maintained she simply speculated that he was in the park she was shown in a surveillance photo of the married couple entering Glacier National Park together.

So the prosecution in the Jordan Linn Graham trial was pushing for a first-degree murder charge along with charges related to lying. In exchange for a guilty plea, they reduced the sentence down to second-degree murder, which has a likely sentence of 19.5 years.

While making the guilty plea, Graham described how she “wasn’t really happy” with being married and admitted she “just pushed” Cody off the cliff. She described how, when she thought he was going to hold her down, she “put one hand on his back and another on his shoulder and then pushed him face-first to his death.”

Still, this doesn’t mean the trial is completely over. The sentencing is set for March 24, 2014 and US District Court Judge Donald Molloy will be considering Jordan Linn Graham’s motive and the testimonies of friends and family when considering the severity of the punishment. Since there isn’t a minimum sentence, it’s always possible Graham could get off relatively easy (especially if you consider how one judge sentenced a three-time rapist to only one month of jail ).
