Universal Cable Productions’ Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will premiere online this Friday, according to TV Guide .

The prequel to the Battlestar Galactica series was shopped to SyFy as a series earlier this year. The network ultimately passed on the pilot, though they will reportedly air it as a two-hour movie event next year.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Blood & Chrome will be released in ten separate chunks with each installment running between seven and 10 minutes long. The first episode is slated to air on the YouTube channel Machinima Prime on Friday, November 9. The other installments will be released over the next month.

The website describes Blood & Chrome as follows:

“The prequel follows young William Adama (Luke Pasqualino, UK’s ‘Skins’) during the first Cylon War. Assigned to the Galactica, the eager Adama finds himself at odds with his co-pilot, the battle-weary officer Coker (Ben Cotton, ‘Alcatraz’).”

Although SyFy Programming President Mark Stern didn’t feel the prequel was right as a series, he is enthusiastic about the pilot’s potential as a television movie event.

“With its top-notch storytelling, pulse-pounding action, and cutting-edge visual effects, ‘Blood & Chrome’ is the perfect extension of the Battlestar Galactica universe,” he explained. “We are thrilled to see this hotly-anticipated event premiere on Machinima, an online network that is unparalleled in its delivery of high-class digital content to millions of viewers.”

David Eick and Michael Taylor wrote and produced the Battlestar Galactica prequel, which is based on Eick, Bradley Thompson, and David Weddle’s story. Jonas Pate of Caprica fame directed the pilot.

Developed by Glen A. Larson, Battlestar Galactica originally debuted on American television stations back in 1978. However, most people are familiar with the 2003 reboot which ran on the Sci-Fi Channel for four seasons. The prequel series Caprica debuted in 2010.

After Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome airs on SyFy in February, the film will receive an unrated DVD release on DVD and VOD. The new trailer has been embedded below.
