Calvin Harris caught Rita Ora completely by surprised when he announced the end of their relationship on Twitter.
David Bowie once sang that he was completely terrified of modern love, and it’s easy to understand why. Instead of taking place behind closed doors, celebrity breakups spread across social media just hours after they take place. Although some people don’t mind making these announcements on sites like Twitter or Facebook, others would like to keep such things private.
Such is the case of Calvin Harris and his ex-girlfriend. According to a post on Twitter, the couple split quite some time ago. Once speculation surrounding their romance reached a fever pitch, Harris decided to make an official announcement on the micro-blogging site.
“To address speculation — myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman and I wish her all the best,” Calvin explained. So much for that shrine he reportedly built for the singer.
According to the Daily Mail , Ora wasn’t expecting Harris to spread the news about their separation on Twitter . An anonymous source told The Sun that the announcement caught her completely off guard.
The insider dished:
“Rita was left embarrassed when he tweeted that it was all over. She didn’t think he was going to make the announcement, so she was shocked. It was Calvin’s decision to end the relationship. They had been arguing for months and had grown apart. She was constantly posting snaps of her with other groups of friends and her trip to Mexico and photos of her with Khalil were the final straw. Calvin likes more privacy than Rita and he hated the extra attention that came with being her boyfriend.”
Since Calvin Harris decided to share the news with his fans and followers on social media, the Fifty Shades of Grey actress issued a very brief statement about the split. It was a fairly diplomatic press release; those looking for a little drama are sure to walk away disappointment.
Ora explained:
“I don’t usually address speculation but I’ve had an incredible time with Calvin, and I will treasure the memories. I’ve moved on from this topic so i hope people will respect that and do the same. Life can only be understood backwards but it must be lived forwards.”
