Mariah Carey was a judge on American Idol during Season 12 in 2013, alongside Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj. Even though her time on the reality show was short, Mariah Carey describes it as the “ worst experience ” of her life, according to the Daily Times Gazette .
Carey, 45, recently had an interview with Australian hosts Kyle and Jackie O. She was asked about her experience with American Idol when she was a judge, and if she would return for the final season.
The American Grammy-winner has spoken out before about her unpleasant experience with the reality show. She didn’t change her tune about her time on American Idol . She still says being a judge on American Idol was the worst experience of her life .
The pop singer didn’t hesitate to answer and give her opinion about the singing competition show. She described it as being “boring” and “fake.”
“Hell no! Absolutely not! That was the worst experience of my life. It’s so boring and so fake, I’m sorry. When I say it’s fake, I mean, I have to make up things to say about everybody. Half the time, the performances are good, you’ll just be like, ‘It was good. Ending it there was really good.’”
She concluded that she would never want to be involved with American Idol again, but everyone else can like it.
There was always drama on the show between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. Mariah admitted the feuds viewers saw between her and Nicki Minaj were also fake.
“I’m not going to get into what it was, but let’s just say I don’t think they had any intentions for us to have a good experience doing that show. Pitting two females against each other wasn’t cool.”
The “Vision of Love” singer then explained that the judges themselves were actually supposed to make up nasty comments or dramatic reactions to the performances just to give the show some twist. She alluded that judges are coerced into giving exaggerated feedback to make the show more interesting and to get better ratings.
Carey concluded that it should have been about the contestants instead of about some nonexistent feud that turned into even more ridiculousness. She said she would would never want to be involved with it again.
The singer has moved on to other things. Currently, she has a residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas where she is showcasing her #1 to Infinity song along with her No. 1 hits.
The Hollywood Reporter said American Idol has been renewed for Season 15, but it will be its final season , with Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. each returning to judge, and with Ryan Seacrest as host.
