Kevin Feige Confirms Marvel Studios’ ‘Spider-Man’ Will Focus More On Peter Parker In High School

With Spider-Man finally arriving in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , there are going to be some changes. First off, Andrew Garfield won’t be playing the web-slinger again, and casting is currently underway. Another big change, confirmed by Marvel’s Kevin Feige, is that more focus will be on Peter Parker being a teenager and being in high school.

“In terms of the age of an actor we’ll eventually to cast, I don’t know. In terms of the age of what we believe Peter Parker is, I’d say 15-16 is right.”

Collider reported that the initial press release revealed that it would indeed be Peter Parker heading into the MCU as Spider-Man. It’s been believed that filmmakers may go in a different direction, but Feige confirms it will be Parker.

The MCU version of Spider-Man is going to make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War , which is just about set to begin filming. This is extremely important, as Spidey plays a huge role in the Civil War story arc.

As for the Spider-Man reboot, that is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 28, 2017 . Less than a year later, Avengers: Infinity War — Part 1 hits theaters and that is essentially when all Marvel hell will break loose.

Feige is not only happy about having Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe , but being able to have him as a teenager again.

“We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years because frankly there’ve been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it is, even though there’ve been five Spider-Man films, there are so many things from the comics that haven’t been done yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being the ‘young, doesn’t quite fit in’ kid before his powers, and then the fella that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys and doesn’t shut up, which is something we want to play with and we’re excited about.”

In the two films for Amazing Spider-Man , Garfield’s version of Peter Parker graduated high school halfway through the first film. From that point on, any high school experiences for Spider-Man are already gone.

There is a lot that is going to happen in the MCU over the course of the next four years, with 12 films already on the slate, beginning with The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015. If Kevin Feige is excited about the new Peter Parker and Spider-Man, then everyone should be.
