Never one to shy away from throwing jabs, whether verbally or in the ring, Floyd Mayweather Jr. opened up about his thoughts on new WBO Welterweight Champ Manny Pacquiao’s performance in his 12-round decision win over Timothy Bradley.
“I thought Pacquiao fought like an amateur and I wasn’t pleased with his performance,” Mayweather said. “He got the victory the best way he knew how. I’m seeing something totally different in Pacquiao.”
Just what is different, Mr. Mayweather? Apparently Pac-Man is short on power since splitting with former strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza .
“I noticed since Ariza is not with Pacquiao, a total change in Pacquiao’s power,” Mayweather said, via AFP . “I don’t see the same pop in Pacquiao’s shots, the same snap. He is getting tired.”
So Floyd Mayweather Jr. says Manny Pacquiao fights like a tired amateur without the same pop he used to have. Is that why we won’t be seeing Mayweather-Pacquiao in the near future?
“I’m seeing something totally different in Pacquiao, but still, that don’t make me say, ‘Yeah, I am going out there and fight him,’ because he’s with Bob Arum and I’m with Mayweather Promotions,” he told AFP on Wednesday.
Of course, if you ask Floyd Mayweather Sr., Pacquiao-Junior would just be a waste of time. With his usual decorum , the elder Mayweather declared Manny and Floyd “would be the easiest fight Floyd could make,” in the days leading up to his son’s May 3 showdown with Marcos Maidana.
“This [Maidana] fight right here would be harder than Manny, believe me. Floyd would have whooped [Pacquiao] anyway, but he’d kill him now because Pacquiao just got clipped by Marquez,” he told the L.A. Times .
“Marquez knocked the … out of Pacquiao. So you think Manny could come back and whip Floyd after that? Come on. Little Floyd beat the hell out of Marquez. Don’t you worry about Manny. Pacquiao ain’t nobody, ain’t never been nobody when it comes to fighting Floyd. Bob Arum can talk all he wants.”
Floyd Mayweather Jr. might think Manny Pacquiao is running out of fuel, but it’s clear his pops still has plenty of gas.
