If you’ve been near a computer, television, or radio today you’ve probably heard something about Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance . The young singer shocked the entertainment world ( especially Will Smith and his family ) with a raunchy twerk filled performance.
But should we really be shocked? I mean, The Onion did predict this backlash back in 2008.
The Onion reported in 2008 that Miley Cyrus would become so popular and so over-exposed that she will be sucked dry of all entertainment value.
The segment, called “Sources Warn Miley Cyrus Will Be Depleted By 2013, states: “Most experts agree that at current usage levels, Miley Cyrus will be drained dry of entertainment value by 2013.”
Dr. Justin Canty of the Institute of Sustainable Cyrus Use adds: “Miley is potent entertainment resource but we are overusing her at incredible levels. She appears on television, albums, toys, clothing… If we don’t act now. The down to earth Miley we know will be wiped off the earth for ever.”
The report also uses a nifty graph that tracks Miley’s hypothetical path until 2013. The video states that most “average teen stars” slowly creep up to “teen sensation” levels but Miley hit stardom so young that there was a dangerous chance that she would quickly travel through stages like “Is She Too Wild,” “Public Meltdown,” and Rehab.
Miley hasn’t hit the “rehab” portion of her career yet but The Onion , the nation’s leader in sarcastic predictions, sees that day coming very soon.
