Director Paul Schrader’s thriller The Canyons starring Lindsay Lohan has reportedly inked a distribution deal with the folks at IFC.
Although the film has quite a bit of talent behind the camera, Schrader and writer Bret Easton Ellis’ upcoming feature hasn’t had the easiest road to the big screen. However, IFC has officially announced it will bring the flick to audiences in North America this summer.
Sundance Selects-IFC Films president Jonathan Sehring said in the press release:
“This film is a wild ride through the psyche of Bret Easton Ellis courtesy of Paul Schrader. Lindsay Lohan is terrific as Tara and James Deen will be a big surprise for people. We are thrilled that the filmmakers’ adventure in filmmaking 2.0 has brought them to our door.”
The Canyons will be featured at the Film Society of Lincoln Center around the same time the movie makes its VOD debut. The screening will reportedly include a Q&A session with Paul Schrader and New York Film Festival programming director Kent Jones.
The deal with IFC is certainly good news for Schrader, Ellis, and Lohan. The Inquisitr previously reported that The Canyons was rejected from The South by Southwest festival over “quality issues.”
An industry insider told The Hollywood Reporter that the thriller had “an ugliness and a deadness to it.” As a result, it didn’t make the cut. This came as a shock to fans of Paul Schrader, who wrote such classics as Taxi Driver and Raging Bull .
The film has certainly found a fan in Kent, who described Lindsay Lohan’s performance in the film as “stunning.” He added that Schrader’s film was “an inspiration and an example to us all.”
