The Walking Dead offers viewers some “appetizers” in the run-up to the highly anticipated new season.

A new season 4 promo trailer as well as a three-part webisode with totally different characters called “The Oath” may tide over viewers with Walking Dead withdrawal until the October 13 premiere of the new season on AMC.

The trailer suggests that the walkers have penetrated the prison in a big way — which can’t be good.

In an entirely separate narrative from the television show, the webisodes (all three of which are embedded below) follows two survivors, Paul and Karina (Wyatt Russell and Ashley Bell), one of whom is in desperate need of medical attention. As the Los Angeles Times explains, “As in years past, the webisodes are directed by Walking Dead executive producer and makeup mastermind Greg Nicotero. So expect some really primo zombie effects. Blood and guts are this guy’s bread and butter, after all.”

In case you somehow tuned in late — or not at all — to the most popular cable television show in America, The Walking Dead , based on a series of graphic novels by Robert Kirkman, focuses on a small group of survivors who are led by Georgia Sheriff Rick Grimes (British actor Andrew Lincoln) in a quest to try to find a safe haven far away from virulent zombie-cannibal “walkers,” a.k.a. biters.” As portrayed in season three in particular, some of the humans that they encounter along the way are also equally dangerous as the zombies.

The Walking Dead is a huge part of the AMC network’s powerhouse Sunday night franchise which also includes Mad Men and the just-concluded Breaking Ba d. In the context of the zombie series, the “walking dead” may also describe the humans who are all infected with the virus in its dormant stage.

For anyone who wants to catch up on past seasons/episodes, a Walking Dead marathon will start on AMC beginning on October 7 at 8 pm Eastern.
