The Chloe Grace Moretz flick Emily the Strange is still moving forward over at Universal.
Based on the Dark Horse graphic novels, the movie tells the story of a goth girl and her many spooky adventures. The character is the brainchild of Cosmic Debris Etc. founder Rob Reger as a mascot for his company. Emily soon took on a life of her own.
Chloe Grace Moretz , whose latest flick Carrie will soon bow in theaters, is still attached to star as the title character in Emily the Strange . In order to give moviegoers the best motion picture experience possible, the studio recently hired another writer to bring the story to life.
According to The Wrap , Kealan O’Rourke was recently tapped to rewrite the script for the upcoming movie. The original draft of the screenplay was reportedly penned by Mirror Mirror scribe Melisa Wallack. Apparently executives thought the story could use a little work.
The website also reports that Dark Horse’s Keith Goldberg and Emily the Strange creator Rob Reger will serve as executive producers on the adaptation. It’s unclear when Universal hopes to have the project ready to roll.
Coming Soon explains that the character’s big-screen adventure was first announced quite a few years ago. Chloe Grace Moretz originally signed on to star in the picture back in 2010 . Although progress slowed to a crawl, it would seem the studio is now trying to get things going again.
While she’s waiting for O’Rourke to deliver a new version of the script, Moretz is staying busy with director Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie remake. The movie is a modern retelling of the classic Stephen King novel of the same name.
“It’s darker and much more psychological [than the original]. More ‘Black Swan.’ You’re really looking into her mind and it really looks into the relationship of Margaret and Carrie. It’s set in modern time, so it’s a lot different,” the actress explained.
