A marijuana legalization commercial is being considered for the Super Bowl. The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana is pushing for the advertisement, which will be funded by Intuit.

Intuit, which developed Quickbooks, recently announced an online contest. Small businesses were invited to enter. The business with the most votes will win a fully funded commercial, which will be broadcast during Super Bowl XLVIII.

The marijuana advocacy group qualifies as a small business. They have been in operation for 40 years.

As reported by East Bay Express , NORML is currently in the lead with popular votes. In fact, they received enough votes to move on to round two.

NORML included a statement about marijuana legalization with their contest entry:

Together, we the people, are ending the US war on pot… we are beautifully positioned to make sure a responsible, adult American citizen is never again arrested for enjoying the beauties of recreational marijuana.

Although Intuit has cut ties with businesses promoting medical marijuana, they have no intention of disqualifying NORML from the contest. As reported by Seattle PI , an Intuit spokesman says they have “ no stance on medical marijuana as a company.”

The spokesman continued, saying the contest was designed to allow “a diverse range” of small businesses to share “their unique stories with the world.”

In the next week, Intuit will make the official announcement. However, a spokesman for NORML confirmed they advanced to the second round.

Contestants making it to the second round will be reviewed by Intel. The top 20 businesses will advance to the semi-final round. At the end of October, Intuit employees will choose four businesses from the semi-finalists.

The four remaining businesses will be announced for another round of popular votes . The final winner of the popular vote will see their commercial during the Super Bowl.

The marijuana legalization commercial has a long road to get to the Super Bowl. However, they have already taken one big step in the right direction.
