Longtime Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger paid the pop crew One Direction a huge compliment recently, telling CNN that he sees a touch of the Stones in the English-Irish boy band.
You can say that Mick is growing senile in his old age or blame it on the drugs, but it you respect the music icon, then his opinion has to mean something. At Tuesday’s premiere of the film Crossfire Hurricane , he told CNN that One Direction recalls the old days of The Rolling Stones when they were first getting started on the road to music fame.
“I watched a concert of One Direction on the TV the other night, you know just to check [it] out,” Jagger said.
“It reminded me very much of our early concerts, when we were pushed around among the audience and we would kind of float. [T]hey were like, floating above the audience, and they looked like, really distinctly uncomfortable. I remember feeling that same uncomfortable feeling of being pushed around in this very weird place about 50 years ago.”
Jagger’s Rolling Stones band-mate Ronnie Wood took it a step further, claiming to be a fan of One Direction before they became famous, and inviting the group to a TBD jam session for Harry Styles and his friends.
The Rolling Stones celebrated their 50th anniversary this year, and are on tour (including some secret shows) to commemorate their longevity. One Direction recently released “Take Me Home,” an album that hit it big on the teen blog circuit and has been predicted to take a No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts.
