Should Sarah Palin run for president in 2016? Conservative columnist Charlotte Allen thinks so, arguing that the former Alaskan governor is just what the GOP needs to revitalize its campaign chances in 2016.
In an op-ed for the Los Angeles Times , Allen argues that Palin is the right candidate for the GOP presidential nominee in 2016. Following Mitt Romney’s loss to President Barack Obama in the 2012 election, Allen believes that Palin would have a better chance at success than Romney because of her “blue collar” sensibilities and ability to appeal to a voter’s emotions.
“Palin can more than keep up with the Democrats in appealing to voters’ emotions,” Allen writes. “Hardly anyone could be more blue collar than Palin, out on the fishing boat with her hunky blue-collar husband, Todd.”
Allen’s best point in defense for Palin is the idea that she would remove a popular Democratic talking point from the political conversation: that of the “war on women.” Also, despite Palin’s anti-gay marriage stance, Allen says that the former Alaskan pol does have a gay following, and that she could build on that with LGBT voters.
Allen also says that Palin has her looks going for her:
“Looks count in politics, and Palin at age 48, has it all over her possible competition, including Hillary Rodham Clinton, who will be 69 by election day 2016 and who let someone talk her into adopting the flowing blond locks of a college student, making her look like Brunnhilde in a small-town Wagner production. Men love Sarah Palin, and she loves men.”
