Alexa Vega is divorced.
The actress had announced her intentions to split from her 36-year-old ex, film producer Sean Covel, earlier this year . But now it’s official: Alexa Vega is divorced. TMZ reports how the divorce was granted over the holiday season, making Vega a 24-year-old divorcee.
The actress decided to end her and Covel’s union after a two-year marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Vega, whose first big role was Spy Kids , married Covel at a ceremony in South Dakota in October 2010. The pair’s wedding raised eyebrows, due to their age difference: Vega was 21, while Covel was 33.
A little over two years later, documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court revealed Vega had filed for divorce on June 28 from Covel, who has produced films including Napoleon Dynamite and Think Tank . The couple have no children, and it is believed they divided up their property back in July.
Vega confirmed in July that she and Covel would be divorcing, with the actress confirming the news to her followers on Twitter, along with a quote from author Sam Keen:
“We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.”
Vega, who is due to appear on theater screens in 2013 in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills with Jessica Alba and Lindsay Lohan, also offered an explanation for the split that suggested the divorce was amicable:
My relationship with Sean was deeply important formative for both of us. It simply evolved out of a marriage and into a friendship.
