Vin Diesel will appear in director James Gunn's upcoming superhero flick Guardians of the Galaxy. However, he only has one line in the entire picture.
The Fast and Furious 6 star portrays the tree-like entity known as Groot in Marvel's upcoming big-budget summer flick. Although the character appears throughout the movie, Diesel said he only gets to say one line of dialogue. Fans of the books should already be well-versed in the character's catchphrase.
"I am Groot!" the character declares.
Vin Diesel recently shared a video entitled "Tree Form Down Time" on his official Facebook page. The clip in question shows the actor walking around a parking lot in a contraption designed for motion capture. It's in this video that the Chronicles of Riddick alum discusses his character's lack of dialogue.
"My father taught me there are no small roles, only small actors. I have one line in the movie, but that doesn't mean anything. I'm still going to make it the best thing I possibly can. Even if it means taking Andy Serkis to a whole other level. Which is what we wanna do with our motion capture."News about Vin Diesel's involvement with Marvel hit a fever pitch at the San Diego Comic-Con over the summer. However, the actor revealed that he originally wanted to do another movie with the studio, though fan expectations ultimately derailed those plans.
"That was the focus of our conversation -- a fresh [intellectual property] that would come out in 2016 or 2017, and potentially launch the third phase," Diesel explained during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Instead of a new movie, he ended up as a tree in Guardians of the Galaxy.
"I guess after they watched Iron Giant, or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking the strangest Marvel character — or the strangest Marvel character that's ever hit film — and thought what I could do with that with motion capture and with my voice," he added.
