Adrian Peterson: 2-Year-Old Son Critical Following Severe Abuse

Adrian Peterson’s 2-year-old son is reportedly hospitalized as the result of severe abuse. The Minnesota Vikings star was absent from practice on Thursday, citing a serious personal situation.

The child was in the care of his mother when he was injured. Sources are reporting that the boy was abused by his mother’s boyfriend. He was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries, and remains in critical condition.

As reported by Fansided, Peterson traveled to South Dakota to monitor the situation. The extent of the child’s injuries are unknown. However, the injuries are described as critical.

Robert Joseph Patterson, age 27, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault. If convicted, he faces 25 years in prison.

The Star Tribune reports that Adrian Peterson returned to Winter Park this morning, intending to join today’s practice. He has not publicly discussed the attack on his son.

Sioux Falls authorities will not confirm the child’s identity. Spokesman Sam Clemens said he has received numerous inquiries. However “who the father is does not come into play in this investigation.”

As reported by Argus Leader, Patterson has a history of violent crime, including domestic violence. Several women have reported abuse, including the mother of his son.

Authorities said they received the call on Wednesday evening. Patterson contacted 911 to report the 2-year-old was choking. When authorities arrived, they found the child in critical condition.

At the hospital, doctors determined that the injuries were “consistent with abuse.”
