Julio Jones Out For Season? Falcons Worried About Foot Injury

Julio Jones may be done for the seasons.

The Atlanta Falcons said today that their star receiver may be sidelined for the rest of the year with a foot injury. The team will have a second doctor look at the injury but it doesn’t look good at the moment.

Coach Mike Smith said that it’s too early to say that Jones’ season is over but added that he wasn’t expecting Jones back anytime soon.

Smith said: “The results are not encouraging, but we will wait to see what the second opinion comes back as… It would be premature at this time (to say he’s out for the season). He’s going over to Charlotte for a second opinion tomorrow.”

On the bright side, the Falcons are heading into their buy week so they’ll have a little extra time to prepare their offense without Jones. Smith said that the team may look at a trade (possibly Kenny Britt or Hakeem Nicks) but said that they also have guys on the roster who could step up and fill Jones’ position.

Smith said: “We have guys who are on our roster and they’ll be asked to step up… If we have to make a roster move, we will look at all options that are available there. There are wide receivers who have been working with us on the practice squad. They know our offense.”

Jones has had 41 catches for 580 yards and two touchdowns so far this season. The Falcons have not given any details about how Jones injured his foot or what the doctors have said about the injury so far.
