‘Paranormal Activity 5’ Finally Lands A Director

The producers of the upcoming horror flick Paranormal Activity 5 recently found a director to bring their project to the big screen.

Although Paramount Pictures generally releases a new entry in the franchise every year, the studio is taking 2013 off. However, this doesn’t mean they’re abandoning the series altogether. In fact, there are currently two new Paranormal Activity movies looming on the horizon.

According to Cinema Blend, Gregory Plotkin will make his directorial debut with the sequel. He previously served as first assistant editor on such notable motion pictures as Frequency, Pay It Forward, and Hart’s War.

Plotkin might be spearheading the upcoming sequel, but he won’t provide the script for the movie. The Hollywood Reporter claims this honor will go to virtual unknowns Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman. They were previously linked to the “found footage” flicks Raindrop and Almanac.

In addition to Paranormal Activity 5, Paramount Pictures is preparing to unleash a Latin spin-off into theaters next year. Director Christopher Landon’s Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones should hit theaters on January 3, 2014.

The next proper installment of the franchise is presently expected to hit the big screen on October 24, 2014. Considering the horror genre seems to have shifted its focus back to traditional narratives, it’s unknown if there’s still an audience for another Paranormal Activity movie.

Although the “found footage” genre ruled cinemas not too long ago, a wave of low-budget horror flicks have dominated the box office in recent months. The Conjuring, The Purge, and Insidious: Chapter 2 were all huge successes earlier this year.

However, there might still be some life in the Paranormal Activity series. The last sequel made approximately $140 million around the world. Considering the studio only spent $5 million on the project, it’s safe to say the flick was a financial success.

Are you a fan of the Paranormal Activity movies? Are you planning to catch the next sequel and the spin-off in theaters next year?
