Indian Comedian Dan Nainan Arrested For Punching Journalist In The Face

Indian comedian Dan Nainan was arrested after punching a journalist in the face.

India in general is known to be a peaceful culture, the inventors of Yoga, and everybody’s favorite, the Kama Sutra. Even one of their most prominent figures was a guy who starved himself to end a war. You might have heard of this man they call Ghandi; Yes, him. In that respect alone, it seems odd that one of them would resort to violent means.

The same could be said for comedians. Comedians get heckled all the time; it’s part of the job. Most of them just turn the joke around on the heckler for a bonus laugh, much like one of the biggest Indian comedians to date, Russell Peters. Most of his routine involves the audience and pointing out the generalizations involved with almost everybody. It works because he makes them laugh at themselves.

Of course we can’t forget the other big Indian comedian Aziz Ansari.

Indian comedian Dan Nainan’s arrest comes as a surprise knowing all of this. The Indian/Japanese comedian apparently punched a Washington, D.C. journalist in the face after said journalist heckled him on Twitter several times.

This just goes to show that even celebrities with their experience-earned thick skins have a breaking point. Most of them get heckled nonstop if they make one little slip-up. It’s the price of fame.

The incident Wednesday happened at the Improv, a Dupont Circle comedy club where journalist Josh Rogin was in the audience. A few minutes into a contest for “Funniest Celebrity in Washington,” Indian comedian Dan Nainan approached the journalist and asked him who he was. When Josh Rogin told him, he proceeded to punch the Washington, D.C. journalist in the face.

That’s not why they call it a punch line, by the way. The comedian claims he was doing it on behalf of all comedians, but all things aside, both of them were just doing their jobs and Dan Nainan was anything but professional.

Alas, Indian comedian Dan Nainan was arrested for what boiled down to poor judgment.
