M.I.A. NFL Lawsuit: Singer Refusing To Pay Fines For Flipping Off Camera At Super Bowl

M.I.A. is refusing to pay the $1.5 million dollar fine demanded by the NFL after M.I.A. flipped off the camera at the Super Bowl, and now the case is heading to court.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Super Bowl 2014 ticket prices are more than doubling.

Pop star M.I.A. recently made headlines over their 2012 Superbowl performance. Now the saga continues as the British-Sri Lankan singer refuses to pay and accuses the NFL legal department of wasting her time. The NFL claims M.I.A. is in deliberate breach of contract, saying M.I.A. is “in flagrant disregard for the values that form the cornerstone of the NFL brand and the Super Bowl.”

Howard King, M.I.A.’s lawyer comes back in scathing reply to the drama of the NFL’s decision to pursue damages over the second long gesture in court:

Of course, the NFL’s claimed reputation for wholesomeness is hilarious in light of the weekly felonies committed by its stars, the bounties placed by coaches on opposing players, the homophobic and racist comments uttered by its players, the complete disregard for the health of players and the premature deaths that have resulted from same, and the raping of public entities ready to sacrifice public funds to attract teams

Neither NBC or the FCC have made anything of M.I.A.’s action last year, but the M.I.A. NFL lawsuit is pushing for a summary judgment and then will go to trial for damages.

Attorney King suggests that M.I.A. will go after the league publicly for her trouble, and invites her fans to call out the NFL for being hypocrites:

We encourage people to submit their examples of how the actions of the NFL, its stars, coaches, advertisers, broadcasters, team doctors and owners have damaged or destroyed any vestiges of any reputation for wholesomeness ever enjoyed by the NFL, these submissions, which we plan to use to bolster M.I.A.’s defense, will help balance the playing field, as they very well could eliminate the burden of undertaking a formal survey of the history of unwholesome behavior, can be made to the M.I.A. defense team by email to NFL@khpblaw.com.
