Dennis Quaid Divorce Dismissed

A judge has dismissed Dennis and Kimberly Quaid’s divorce after the couple reconciled earlier this year.

Kimberly Quaid initially filed for divorce in March 2012, saying that the marriage had “become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities.” Her attorney withdrew the divorce papers in April, but the couple moved to California before deciding to separate again in October.

After waiting to establish the required six months of residency in California, Dennis Quaid filed for divorce on November 30, asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s twins, Thomas and Zoe. He also offered to pay his estranged wife spousal support, and bought a $3.1 million home for her and the children.

The couple reconciled again in March 2013, but were unable to withdraw the petition because it was too far along in the court system. The couple had to go to a judge to get the petition withdrawn, and their request was granted last week.

Dennis and Kimberly Quaid were married on July 4, 2004, at his ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana. The couple’s fraternal twins were born via gestational carrier on November 8, 2007. Ten days after the twins’ birth, hospital staff mistakenly gave them a dosage of the blood thinner heparin that was 1,000 times the common dosage, putting the newborns in critical condition. The twins were left vulnerable to uncontrolled bleeding in what was called a “preventable error” by Cedars-Sinai.

Dennis Quaid filed a lawsuit against the drug manufacturer, Baxter Healthcare, claiming that the packaging for the two doses was not different enough. He and his wife testified before the US House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in May 2008, asking Congress not to preempt the right to sue drug manufacturers for negligence.

In December 2008, the couple reached a settlement with Cedars-Sinai for $750,000 in damages, although they did not sue the hospital directly. The case against Baxter Healthcare was dismissed.
