Time to start thinking about the 2011 NFL Draft

So as the NFL regular season winds down, the College Football season has ended, and Bowl season in upon us, we of course turn our focus to the NFL draft. Sure it is over four months away, but hey for a lot of fans in a lot of cities Draft day is the best day of the year. Guys like me get to spout off at the mouth saying this and that, and mostly being wrong. It is great; it is the next best thing to actual NFL football games. With that being said let us look at what we can expect from the 2011 NFL Draft.

Without a doubt QB Andrew Luck will be the first overall pick of the Carolina Panthers. Several other teams need QB’s and Cam Newton, Jake Locker, and Ryan Mallet will be the highlights of this class at the QB position. Several teams will be looking including the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings.

As for the rest well it is kind of early to start ranking guys, but I think we will see a lot of shut down corners taken in the first round of the draft. I think that will start as high as wherever the Detroit Lions wind up picking and may start with the Denver Broncos. There are several teams out there that will be looking to upgrade their defenses, and last year’s draft showed the best way to do so is with cornerbacks.

As far as trades go, the Vikings may feel the need to move up and get themselves a QB. Of course this team has a long history of not developing their own talent and letting the free agent market decide who will be their QB. They may make a play for Donovan McNabb, or Vince Young but we will have to wait and see on that one.
