Katie Couric Engaged To John Molner

Katie Couric is engaged to her boyfriend of two years, John Molner.

A rep for the host, whose talk show Katie returns for a second season September 9, confirmed the engagement. The 50-year-old banker proposed at sunset on the beach in East Hampton, New York, over Labor Day weekend.

Couric was married to Jay Monahan in 1989. The couple had two daughters together, Elinor “Ellie” Monahan and Caroline “Carrie” Couric Monahan, who are 21 and 17, respectively. Jay Monahan died of colon cancer in 1998 at the age of 42, and Couric became a spokeswoman for colin cancer awareness. She underwent a colonoscopy on-air in March 2000.

A study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in 2003 said that Couric may have inspired others to undergo colonoscopies.

“Katie Couric’s televised colon cancer awareness campaign was temporarily associated with an increase in colonoscopy use in 2 different data sets,” the study said. “This illustrates the possibility that a well-known individual can draw attention and support to worthwhile causes.”

The 56-year-old told People in 2011 that she wanted to get married again, but eventually stopped worrying about finding a husband.

“When the girls were really little, I always imagined I would be modern-day Carol Brady,” she said. “I used to worry a lot about the future. [But] who knows what it will bring? Hopefully it will bring good things.”

Katie Couric and John Molner, who is head of mergers and acquisitions at Brown Brothers Harriman, went public with their relationship in April 2012. Couric said of her now-fiancé, “He’s great. He’s from Chicago. I love Midwesterners!”

The first season of Katie was nominated for a People’s Choice Award for Favorite New Talk Show Host and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show (Informative). The former went to Steve Harvey and the latter went to The Dr. Oz Show. ABC renewed Katie for a second season on January 30.
