Matt Damon Joins Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ [Report]

Matt Damon is the latest star to join Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi flick Interstellar.

According to IndieWire’s The Playlist, Damon was cast in a “small, undisclosed role.” Details of Damon’s character are being kept quiet — like every other role in the film so far — but sources said he will only be shooting the project for two weeks in Iceland. The entire shoot is scheduled for four months.

Damon will also have a small role in another sci-fi film, Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem, starring Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Thierry, David Thewlis, and Lucas Hedges. He’ll also be appearing in Monuments Men, which is co-written, produced and directed by star George Clooney. The film is based on the book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History by Robert M. Edsel.

Rumors recently started circulating that Damon would be re-teaming with Paul Greengrass for another Bourne movie. Twitchfilm reported that Damon and Greengrass were in talks with Universal execs for another film.

Universal quickly put an end to the speculation and said that there was no truth to the rumor. Instead, the studio is moving forward with the story that began in The Bourne Legacy. Jeremy Renner, who played Aaron Cross in Legacy, is in talks to reprise his role.

Matt Damon also recently spoke up in defense of buddy Ben Affleck, who will be playing Batman in the Man of Steel sequel.

“I know there are a lot of people grousing on the internet. I just think it’s kind of funny. You know, he’s not playing King Lear. It’s Batman! Certainly within his skill set,” Damon said. “If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he’s been doing lately, it’s way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman!”

Damon added, “Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that.”
