‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ Demo Takes the Fort, Walks You Through It [Video]

A new demo for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag talks us through the conquering of a naval fort.

The demo begins as Ashraf Ismail, game director for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag introduces himself and we see a cutscene which precedes taking a naval fort.

Two men on a pirate ship called the Jackdaw talk about their plans after piratehood, one black and one white. The latter of which (probably Edward Kenway) starts it off, “So, what do you do with your share of the gold we take from Governor Torres? Return to Africa, prince among men?”

The black man laughs, “I cannot return to a place I’ve never been. I was born in Trinidad, a slave from my first breath.”

Edward Kenway leans on the captain’s wheel and suddenly backs away from it as he continues the conversation in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, “Ah, but wouldn’t you feel, I don’t know, more welcome there?”

The black man replies, “Would you feel more welcome in Paris?” Edward Kenway admits his point. The black man laughs again, “With this skin and this voice, where can I go in the world and feel at ease? This country here is my best chance. This country called Jackdaw, where I know the names of all the citizens and they know mine, and we work together. Not always out of love, but to keep our country afloat.”

The actual Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag demo walk-through starts as Ashraf Ismail begins his commentary. We see through what might be a spyglass as it focuses on the fort, and we see a couple of red nodes on it. On the water, there are two other boats to fight as well as the fort. He tells us that the fort has towers that need to be taken out before we can begin an assault on it.

The mortar is a straightforward fire-and-forget style weapon, as Ashraf Ismail explains. He adds that harder naval forts later on will have more towers. The demo above goes into further detail on taking forts in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
